Day 3: Create Your Own Web Illustrations

February 28, 20263 min read

Announcement

With the web illustrations I'm releasing today, you can create illustrations for your website with your own concept and content, in unlimited color options, as SVG, and lightweight. You can browse 500+ illustration examples on the site and purchase the prompt via Gumroad. With this prompt, you can ask ChatBOTs that only generate text to generate SVG code. Context

I started a Vibe Coding Challenge. I plan to release a new product every day, and today is my 3rd day. You can check out my website to learn about the process (labdays.io)

Notes from the 3rd Day of the Challenge

It's nice to know what I need to do when I wake up in the morning now.

First, I created 5 different folders and tackled tasks that would challenge Claude's abilities.

However, ultimately, one project seemed publishable and useful, so I focused on it.

Despite setting an alarm, I overslept, so I was anxious about meeting the deadline and quickly moved on to polishing.

I was inspired by unDraw, a site I frequently used during my web development days, and started developing a powerful prompt for creating illustrations.

In the first attempts, it produced terrible SVGs. But I think generating text on a low budget, and having that text actually be an image, creates value, so I continued.

I iteratively edited the prompt and ran tests. Eventually, I reached the current version, and realizing that it got worse when I tried to improve it further, I left it as it is.

My plan was to create an illustration generator, but time was running out, and I couldn't deal with memberships and subscriptions.

So, I created 500 sample SVG images and offered them for free on the site, and I put the prompt up for sale on Gumroad for those interested in this work.

I'm creating projects with a "build in public" concept and expecting followers to support the process, but at the same time, I'm charging for them.

This is contradictory, but considering the amount of tokens I've burned, and to maintain my motivation, I need to base the projects I produce on a revenue model.

Later, I will of course share the useful tools I will create for developers as open-source.

Insights

  • The saying "motivation follows action" is very true. We can't start work because we lack motivation. But if we start work, we somehow become motivated.
  • The question my brain always asks me is, "Am I on the right path?" But if something can convince me to sit down and work for hours every day, then it's definitely the right thing.
  • Yesterday I submitted my project to Product Hunt; I used to think it was a very complicated process, but it was very easy.
  • Getting up early is important.
  • Consistency is the most important factor for success.
  • I've always wanted to make a living by writing. I never imagined it would be possible this way (vibe coding).
  • I'm realizing again and again that the right prompts can work wonders.
  • AI is like a giant function. It can do a lot if you can get the right part of it working.

Things I Need to Automate

  • I need to create a template that will allow me to easily handle membership and database operations.

Mistakes

  • I woke up late this morning; I should get up earlier.
